Good is not good enough

I've lost count of how many times I've said "good is not good enough anymore" to an audience of Realtors.
Over and over again, agents hear of the 80/20 rule. In terms of income available in the industry, that means that 20% of Realtors (the Great ones) earn a whopping 80% of it! Conversly 80% of the industry (the Good ones) fight over the 20% of dollars left. And we wonder why agents are always struggling to protect their commissions! Regular readers know I refrence Seth a bunch and it's nice to see someone outside the industry make the point in a different way.

I do know this. Our S.M.A.R.T. Program graduates, who make it into the Core Values Club and work for an extra year to permanantly install those learned skills, and who come to the Master Sales Event, are in my mind well on their way to being one of the Great Ones.

What makes a successful Realtor?

Is Eleanor Mowery Sheets really a good Realtor? Is Dee Shultz really a good Realtor? This weekend I have my students on my mind; next week I'll start session 1 with a group and graduate another. The group I'm starting to work with has chosen to let me take them under my wing and remove their option to fail for the next six weeks while they learn Floyd Wickman's material. The group I'm graduating has a tougher choice: continue to master the material or slide backwards to where they were 42 days ago. Eleanor and Dee are both at the top of the industry and I believe they are both the #1 producers worldwide in their respective companies (if not they aren't far off #1). I know they are both great Realtors but what makes them successful? A choice. Most people would never consciously say "I'm chosing not to be a success" but as Seth Godin points out...not choosing is still a choice.

I have perfect feet!

Actually, I don't. My knees were a little sore after a long distance run so I went to a shoe store that caters to runners. After a foot scan in a really cool machine, I discovered that my arch is as long as you would typically find on a foot one full size bigger than mine.

This causes my foot to roll inward while running and everything up to my back is out of alignment...thus the knee soreness. Lucky for me the scan allowed the salesperson to fit me with inserts to support the arch. If that wasn't enough, I got an education on construction of a running shoe vs. a cross trainer and why you should never really run in a cross trainer. Yea! I get to buy new shoes!!! Bill: $369.13. So I guess, with a little help from science, I can have perfect feet. What in the world does this have to do with the life of a realtor? Click continue to read the second part of this post....
